This Park was establishedin 1973to protect the important riverine vegetation and mopane woodland of the upper Shire Valley and is now Malawi's showpiece park. amajor feature of this park is the Shire River, which provides one of the last refuges in the country for hiipo and Nile crocodile. In Liwonde National Park you have a good chance of seeing good numbers of impala, sable antelope, common waterbuck, warthog, hiipo, elephant and crocodile.
