THE HIGHLIGHTS: 5 African Countries; tribal life; the
Makgadikgadi Pans and Chobe River in Botswana; 2 days in Victoria
Falls; the thrill of canoeing the Zambezi River; game drives
in South Luangwa National Park; camping on the shores of Lake
Malawi; Mount Mulanje hike; the tropical beaches of Moçambique

DAY
1: JOHANNESBURG - MARTIN’S DRIFT
We depart at 06h30 from the Randburg Towers, in Randburg, north
of Johannesburg and travel via Ellisras to Martin’s Drift,
near the Botswana border. (All meals).
DAY
2: MAGKADIKGADI PANS - BOTSWANA
We cross the border into Botswana and travel north via Francistown
to Nata. The pans are dry most of the year, except during the
rainy season (Dec-Mar). If accessible we will drive to the edge
of the pans to experience the spectacular sunset. (All meals).

3: CHOBE RIVER - BOTSWANA
Chobe is famous for its beautiful scenery and magnificent sunsets.
In the evening we may see the herds of elephant drinking at
the river during our afternoon cruise. (All meals).

4/5: VICTORIA FALLS/ LIVINGSTONE "MOSI-OA-TUNYA" -
THE SMOKE THAT THUNDERS
The Victoria Falls is without doubt one of the greatest and
most spectacular sights in Africa, where the waters of the mighty
Zambezi River tumble down in continuous thunder. Days spent
at leisure for optional excursions. (All meals excluding 1 dinner).
DAY
6: LOWER ZAMBEZI - ZAMBIA
We travel through Zambia to set up our camp on the banks of
the Zambezi River at Lower Zambezi River Camp. Visit to a typical
African village. (All meals).

7/8: ZAMBEZI CANOEING
We board our canoes for a 2-day excursion on the Zambezi River.
Whilst paddling down with the gentle current of the river, we
relax and enjoy the profound sense of peace and tranquillity.
(All meals).

9: LUANGWA RIVER
We travel via the capital city of Lusaka and install our camp
near the Luangwa River. (All meals).

10/11: SOUTH LUANGWA NATIONAL PARK
The ecologically unspoilt South Luangwa National Park is undoubtedly
one of the finest wildlife sanctuaries in Africa. The 9050km2
park has elephant, hippo, buffalo, and numerous species of antelope
and predators. The birdlife is a birdwatcher’s delight.
During the rainy season (Dec – Mar) the park may become
inaccessible. (All meals).
DAY
12/13: LAKE MALAWI
The lake, with its crystal clear waters, sandy beaches and beautiful
bays, is surrounded by high rugged peaks and mountains. We set
up our camp on the lakeshore, swim, suntan and relax for two
days. (All meals).
DAY
14/15: MOUNT MULANJE - MALAWI
An early start takes us to the impressive Mount Mulanje, which
is one of the most impressive sights in Malawi. Unique forests
of Mulanje cedar cover the slopes. We hike into the mountain,
and return to our base camp in the late afternoon. (All meals).

16: CHICAMBA AREA - MOÇAMBIQUE
We cross the Zambezi at Tete and enter the scenic eastern highland
mountains with their many scattered traditional African Villages.
(All meals).

17/18: VILANCULOS - MOÇAMBIQUE
Our delightful campsite under the coconut palms near the wide
deserted beaches, allows us to swim during the day in the warm
blue waters of the Indian Ocean. (All meals).
DAY
19/20: INHAMBANE - BARRA REEF - MOÇAMBIQUE
We cross the Tropic of Capricorn on our way to Inhambane, one
of Moçambique’s oldest and most charming towns
with its picturesque dhows and market, before reaching the beautiful
beaches of Barra. Our camp next to the azure ocean is set amid
sand dunes and palm groves, and offers many optional excursions
including diving and snorkelling. (All meals).
DAY
21: CASA LISA - MOÇAMBIQUE
The colourful and vibrant local markets, the social and economic
hub of life in the towns and villages, provide the visitor with
an insight into the richness of local culture. Our camp at Casa
Lisa is situated north of Maputo. (All meals).
DAY
22/23: SAFARI IN KRUGER NATIONAL PARK
We travel to the famous wildlife sanctuary of the Kruger National
Park, one of the oldest game reserves in Africa, where we spend
our time exploring on early morning and late afternoon game
drives observing numerous species of animals and birds. We relax
in camp during mid day. (All meals).
DAY
24: JOHANNESBURG
We return to the Randburg Towers, Johannesburg at +-16h00. (Breakfast
and lunch).
This
itinerary is flexible and will depend on the local conditions.
Participation safari
Accommodation: 23 nights camping.
Meals: All meals when camping except 1 dinner
in Victoria Falls/ Livingstone.
Group Size: 8 - 16 participants.
Canoeing: We canoe between 25-30km, for a period
of 5-7 hours per day, including a lunch break. No previous canoeing
experience is necessary however participants must be fit and
in good health.
Sleeping Bag Hire: €11 per week - must
be booked in advance.
Transfers: Transfer in Johannesburg (+-€45
p/p) may be pre-booked.
Important: Not recommended for participants
over 55 years.
Possible
optional excursions (booked locally):
•
White-water rafting, microlighting, bungi jumping and abseiling
at Victoria Falls/ Livingstone.
• Dugout canoeing or fishing on Lake Malawi
• Scuba diving or snorkelling in Moçambique
• Night Game drives in South Luangwa or Kruger Park
