This tour of cultural discovery is ideal for the explorer whose interests lie in the country and its inhabitants. This tour incorporates 'must see' areas with traditional sightseeing, highlighting the exceptional cultural found in South Africa. This module travels from Gauteng (Johannesburg area) to the Mpumalanga province, known for its scenic beauty and rich wildlife, and can be combined with the Cultural South Africa - The South tour for a full South African cultural experience.
Day 1
You will be met on arrival at Johannesburg International Airport by a Safari Co. representative, handed your world-class documentation and assisted to the Europcar rental counter to collect your vehicle. Travel past or through the metropolis of Johannesburg into the countryside surrounding this multi million inhabitant city to the cultural village of Lesedi. Experience the rich tapestry of five of the cultures of South Africa in a lively and real life environment. Accommodation is in rustic traditional huts, with modern-day conveniences.

Day 2
After breakfast and having relaxed in true African style, travel
through the city of Pretoria on to Witbank, Middelburg and to
the old Voortrekker Town of Lydenburg. A visit to the historic
church allows insight into a culture so foreign to modern times.
The trip continues to Pilgrims Rest, an historic gold digging
town. Explore this living monument on foot or request a personal
guide for even more insight into this period of our history.

Day 3
Today you may explore the Panoramic Route with its scenic beauty
and many historic sights including God’s Window, Bourkes
Luck Potholes and the Blyde River Canyon. The trip follows the
historic passes to the Lowveld and on to Hazyview. Visit Shangana
Cultural Village. At night a huge cast of actors, dancers and
singers present the history of the Shangaan through music, in
a vibrant and captivating evening festival. A traditional dinner
is included as part of the experience. Pilgrim's Rest.

Day 4
Drive towards the Schoemanskloof Valley where Old Joe’s
Kaia is situated as the stepping stone to the splendours of the
lowveld. The homestead with its verandah overlooking the valley,
offers a feeling of total tranquillity.

Day 5
Today is your last day to explore this spectacular corner of South
Africa before you travel via Nelspruit and Machadodorp to Johannesburg
where you arrive in the late afternoon and return your rental
vehicle in Johannesburg or at the International Airport.

RECOMMENDED CLOTHING: Light casual clothing is sufficient during
the day with smart casual dress recommended for evenings and dinner.
From May to September warm clothing will be required.
HEALTH REQUIREMENTS: No inoculations are required but an anti-malaria
precaution is recommended.
