Explore
the magnificent Masai Mara Game Reserve by vehicle, on foot
and by air. Throughout the year the Mara is a place of natural
drama, a kaleidoscope of colour and life. The famed "Big
Five" - elephant, rhino, lion, leopard and buffalo -
roam the reserve, together with hundreds of other species,
from the fastest animal on earth, the cheetah to crocodiles
and magnificent birds of prey. The lodges are both offering
the Masai Mara in the classic safari style. Each tent has
it's own en-suite bathroom with constant hot and cold running
water and flushing toilets. Lighting is by gas, kerosene lantern
and candlelight.
DAY
1: NAIROBI TO MASAI MARA
After a 45 min flight from Nairobi to the Masai Mara Game
Reserve, we transfer to the most magnificent natural theatre
in the world. Set in the heart of Africa's Great Plains, the
Masai Mara boasts 1,672 sq. kilometres of unspoilt wilderness.
It offers the best game and bird-viewing not only in Kenya,
but anywhere in Africa. The views across the rolling golden
grasslands studded with acacia trees, rivers and forests are
dazzling, the sense of space overwhelming. We transfer to
our lodge in the heart of the Masai Mara. Overnight at Governor's
Camp. The setting is magical. So much so that almost
a century ago it was reserved, exclusively, for Kenya's colonial
Governors and their royal visitors. Now Governors' Camp nestles
in the forest along the winding banks of the Mara River,
it's waters teeming with hippo and crocodile.
DAY
2/3: MASAI MARA BY VEHICLE AND ON FOOT
We spend our time exploring this wildlife paradise on
early morning and late afternoon game drives. Full day game
drives are also available with a picnic lunch enjoyed under
the shade of an acacia tree. On one of the days, a walking
safari will bring you closer to the wildlife of the African
savannah. Overnight at Governor's Camp and enjoy cocktails
around the camp fire and dinner by candle light.
DAY
4/5: MASAI MARA BY VEHICLE AND AIR (BALLOON SAFARI)
Today we move to another part of the reserve. We cross
the Mara River by boat and walk a short distance to Little
Governor's Camp. Intimate in character, the tasteful and
comfortable tents are tucked around a large watering-hole
that teems with animal and bird life. From every veranda the
view changes daily: Giraffe and Lion, Elephant and Warthog.
There's always excitement in the Mara, dawn as the animals
wake, midday and the shimmering heat, or dusk, perfect for
hunting: a pride of lion stalking zebra, a herd of elephant
heading for the swamps, cheetah cubs playing in the shade.
Sights you won't forget. We enjoy the sights and sounds of
the Masai Mara on 4x4 game drives.
After
an early rise on day five, we prepare for the experience of
a lifetime - a balloon safari over the magnificent plains
of the Masai Mara. After landing, feast on a champagne breakfast
before returning to camp on a game drive.
As
dusk falls the flickering lights in the forest make the camp
a uniquely peaceful and atmospheric place. Overnight at Little
Governor's Camp.
