The Victoria Falls topples over a sheer 100 metre (330 feet) drop. It forms a mile-wide (1,609 metre) curtain of water that is as spectacular as its reputation and more! It can be viewed from numerous viewpoints.
It is the widest curtain of falling water in the world, and during the months of February to April (after the rainy season), the volume of water cascades at over 500 000 cubic metres per second into the gorge below. This results into a spray that can be seen from more than 30km (20 miles) away and from there it derives its local African name - Mosi-Oa-Tunya - 'The Smoke that Thunders'. The Victoria Falls are fed by the steadily flowing Zambezi River that originates in the mountain regions between Angola and Zambia. This river reaches the Indian Ocean in Mozambique. The Zambezi River is 1,687 miles long (2,700 km) and is Africa's fourth largest river. See our Map of Victoria Falls for accommodation options.

Take a flight over the Victoria Falls by helicopter and enjoy this amazing natural wonder from a bird-eye view. It is a great way to appreciate the spectacular size of this waterfall and to see how it plummets almost a 100m over the edge into the gorge. You might even be luckily enough to spot a few animals along the banks, hippos in the river and elephants on the many islands. There are different flight options available.

There are not many activities as adventurous as a white water rafting trip down the Zambezi. You start just under the Victoria Falls and spend the day hitting rapid after rapid as you move through the gorge. The scenery is breathtaking, and just when you think it gets a bit too relaxed, the next rapid comes up. The adrenaline pumps as you prepare to go into the next wall of white water without getting washed out of your boat! There are full day and half day options available.

After a hard day of adventure activities, there's nothing better than to relax on a cruise boat and take in the beauty of the Zambezi River.... Experience the spectacular sights as the boat gently takes you upstream while sipping on an ice cold drink. Spot a fish eagle as it glides majestically over the river, or spot an elephant as it quenches its thirst on the banks of the Zambezi. Different options allow you to book out the boat as a group or join other travelers on the larger cruises.
