Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park is a self drive destination. The Botswana part of the Kgalagadi allows for 4x4 access only. South Africa's side is ideal for 2x4 vehicles and a great alternative if you don't have a 4x4 vehicle.
There are a few trails that can be explored. All trials require a high clearance 4x4 vehicle with low range and travelers must be completely self sufficient for the entire duration of your visit.
This includes water, food, fuel, vehicle tools and spares, firewood, spare tyres, tyre repair kit and camping equipment. A minimum of 2 vehicles and a maximum of 5 are permitted on each trail. No trailers are permitted.
Advance booking is essential and fees payable before starting the trails. Add a night before and a night after in the park, so make sure to book accordingly.

Our trip to Botswana's Kgalagadi was planned with no real expectations as we have visited the South African side of the park numerous times. Were we surprised to find how different the experience was!? We enjoyed the isolation and complete exclusiveness found in the campsite scattered around the Botswana part of the Kgalagadi. We will strongly recommend any adventurous, well prepared traveler to visit the Kgalagadi for your next holiday...read full review |
