Kasane is situated in the northeastern part of Botswana, and the gateway to Chobe National Park. The town is set on the banks of the Chobe River and near the borders with Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe. Kasane offers travelers a welcome break after a visit to the Okavango Delta and Savute, especially those that decides to travel by road on a camping safari. This is the perfect stop-over to resupply or to wash off the dust from a safari into the interior of Botswana.
But Kasane is not just a stop-over destination. It offers a wide variety of accommodation and is the base for many to experience the Chobe National Park and River. Activities that should not be missed are a sunset cruise on the Chobe River. The wildlife, esepcially the elephant coming donw to drink in the afternoon is a sight to behold. Bird lovers will appreciate the wide variety of species found in the area.
There is a wildness to this town and it is not uncommon to see warthog, and even elephant wandering down the main street!

Kasane is the ideal base to explore the Chobe National Park.The town is famous for the sunset cruises on the Chobe River where at times hundreds of elephants are found quenching their thirsts in the afternoons. It is a special experience to witness the interaction between the elephant herds as they drink and feed along the river bank. At times elephant cross the river completely emersing themselves in the waters of the Chobe, only spotting their trunks sticking out of the water.
Enjoy day trips into the park on open game viewing vehicles led by experience guides to show you the hidden treasures in this part of Botswana. Many travelers visit Victoria Falls (via Zambia or Zimbabwe) as a day excursion. Fishing is another activity that can be enjoyed here. The Zambezi River flows past the town of Kasane which forms the border with Zambia. Both the Zambezi and Chobe Rivers offer excellent tiger fishing.
Birding is exceptional in the Kasane area.

| Kasane is accessible by plane via the Kasane International Airport. Flight connections from Livingstone in Zambia, Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe and Maun in Botswana make Kasane easily reached on daily flights. This border town is also ideally situated to travel to Zambia and the town of Livingstone via the Kazangula ferry (if traveling by vehicle). The ferry trip is an interesting experience, where you drive onto a sturdy pontoon together with large trucks delivering goods into Africa. The town of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe is a short 75km drive along the Zambezi River. Travelers visiting Namibia's Caprivi Strip can make use of the border post of Ngoma. |
