I have to be honest; I loved these boots from the moment I opened the box! And I’ve had them on everyday since. But just to clarify, these aren’t just ‘wear-it-everyday’ type of boots. Hi-Tec’s Sierra Lites are serious hiking boots with all the bells and whistles you need, ready to take on a 5 day Otter Trail or to be worn as a working boot that can take whatever is thrown its way.

I’ve been trying them out for about a week now and these shoes have impressed me so much that I decided to write about it. We generally only tell our readers about products that really impress us and that will make their life easier – and this is one such product.

When I choose a shoe for adventures in Africa, it has to tick a few boxes before I consider it. The ‘must-haves’ are comfort, light-weight, durable and easy to slip on and off. These aspects are all covered by the Sierra Lite.

My first impression of the boot was that it has a unique, fresh look. The innovative mesh upper molded over the orange Hi-Tec logo gives this boot a sophisticated appearance. This is just from an aesthetic point of view, but the technology behind the materials used allow sturdy, supportive uppers at the lowest weight possible. Hi-Tec calls it V-Lite technology. It is a revolutionary vertical build concept that strips away as much weight as possible without sacrificing performance or durability. No one specific technology can be credited for the light weight of this collection, but rather the creative combination of innovative materials and construction.

The two other aspects that immediately caught my eye was the Vibram outsole and the ion-mask™ technology that keeps your feet dry, but maintaining temperature control and breathability. The ion-mask™ technology doesn’t only keep you dry but helps to keep your boots clean by resisting dirt. We’ll be testing the Sierra Lite I WP’s on a few hikes and use as a shoe for general wear over the next month or so and will do a full report on it’s performance.Follow us as we explore the Eastern Cape’s wilderness trails and safari destinations!Keep up to date with our adventures on facebook and google+.
